David Green 1992 Nissan 240sx
This is a 1992 Nissan 240SX SE Convertible, number 957 of 1,391 for 1992. Taking a trip back in time to ‘92, Nissan wanted to make a convertible version of their S13 generation of cars to match their Japanese market. Every convertible was exported to the U.S. as a coupe and was taken by American Specialty Cars (ASC), where they were laser cut into convertibles. Between 1992-1994, there were only 8,320 of these convertibles made. These cars were taken back and resold to Nissan.
Green stumbled on this car on a used goods and services online market in Autumn of 2022. The seller was the brother of the original owner. The listing of the car was mislabeled. Green added in his written documentation, “I thought I might as well check it out because I’ve always loved the S13s.” Due to the car being a convertible, Green was hesitant but thought it was unique and enjoyable enough to be worth the purchase. After the deal was made, Green became the second titled owner of this retro icon. Still learning to accept it being a convertible, Green intended on making small repairs and profiting from reselling the 240SX. This plan was delayed by standard life situations, but Green found himself buying a set of coilovers for a great deal. “...and that’s when the journey began,” Green stated.
This rarity has some modest and tasteful internals as well. It has a KA24DE Nissan motor with 130 WHP, 160 pound-feet of torque, and a swift 0-60 mph time of around 8 seconds. It came factory with an automatic transmission but was swapped with a 5-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. The suspension is assisted by Mono coilovers and Swift springs, with ISR tension arms, camber arms, and toe arms. The wheels have been taken from the 4-lug bolt pattern and now are 5-lug, with updated brakes. The engine bay has had some modifications as well. Green has installed an ISR header and test pipe, done an EGR delete, and plans on installing his ISR turbo kit. This motor is sure to sound fantastic thanks to the Apexi exhaust running under the car. Safety features are en route as Green is working to install a Rhodes Racing roll bar. Since these cars came factory with a soft top, there is a custom hardtop being built for this car.
This car has some paint and wrap mixed visuals that make for a tasteful combination of the two. It’s factory black but has a 2-tone style with gunmetal metallic gray vinyl wrap along the bottom. It’s running a Dmax-style S13 body kit. The shoes on this runner are 3-piece Weds Kranze LXZ, 18x10 with a silver and white face. Inside the car is an authentic Nardi steering wheel paired with an NRG Innovations hub, S14 seats, Garage Moon Power floor mats, a Dasai talk box, and ultimate passenger, and an ISR short shifter.
Green has been using this car to practice and get better at drifting and plans to continue the modifications, as well as grow with the amazing people he’s met because of it. He also carries his ambitions of a social media journey through growing his page and identity in the drifting community, which he looks forward to doing next season.
